Levi Nietvelt, Economic Officer with consumer orgnisation BEUC, calls for more power for European energy regulators and for a cap on energy prices.
“We are in favour of ownership unbundling. At the same time, our position is that this on itself will not be enough. There is also the problem of very concentrated markets both in electricity and in gas, and there is the problem of how to ensure that during the time that inteconnection capacity is built, during the time that the unbundling takes effect, consumers are still protected. So what we have pleaded for is to give regulators the power to impose temporary price caps. “
